WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington men's soccer forward Yoni Berhanu was named to College Soccer News' 2008 All-Freshman Second Team.
Berhanu was joined by Temple's Tyler Witmer (second team) and Dayton's Jack Pearson (third team) as Atlantic 10 players on College Soccer News' 2008 All-Freshman Team. Click here to view the complete College Soccer News 2008 All-Freshman Teams.
Berhanu became the seventh freshman in school history to be named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year after finishing third on the team with four goals and 11 points. The A-10 All-Rookie Team selection opened his collegiate career with All-Tournament Team honors in helping the Colonials capture their second straight DC College Cup title in August and netted the game-winning golden goal against Duquesne Nov. 7.
Berhanu's selection backs up his preseason billing on the A-10 All-Rookie Team and as one of College Soccer News' "100 Freshmen to Keep an Eye On in 2008."
GW is slated to return 25 players from this year's 2008 team that finished 8-6-3 overall and above .500 for the second straight season. The Colonials tied for sixth in the A-10 standings with 14 points (4-3-2), but missed out on the conference tournament by a one-point tiebreaker.
