WASHINGTON, DC - Jessica Starling and Shakira Nettles combined for 34 points to lead South Alabama to a 65-61 victory over Liberty in the consolation game of the GW Thanksgiving Classic at Charles E. Smith Center Saturday afternoon.
Starling led all scorers with 18 points and Nettles added 16 for the Lady Jags, who hit nine 3-pointers for the second straight game. The game featured six ties and 13 lead changes, the last coming on a Nettles triple with 10:11 remaining.
Liberty (1-4) pulled within four, 62-58, on Moriah Frazee's three-point play with 25 seconds left, but South Alabama (5-1) iced the game with three free throws. Frazee led the Lady Flames with 17 points, followed by 14 from Amber Mays.
