Women's Rowing Performs Strong at Princeton Chase

PRINCETON, NJ - The George Washington University Women's Rowing team returned to action on Sunday at the Princeton Chase in Princeton, NJ. The Colonials entered two boats in the regatta, an open four and an open pair. Conditions were perfect for racing with temperatures in the 60s with a slight headwind.
"We were really looking forward to this regatta and had hoped to row in a few more races," said head coach Robert McCracken. "Unfortunately, we had a few injuries that impacted the number of people we had available for the weekend. Our student-athletes did a great job of handling the uncertainty as they prepared for the race."
The GW open four entry of Katie Martin (Centerport, NY), Bess Austin (Madison, WI), Kirsten Spittel (Pittsburgh, PA), Carrie Rollman (Tucson, AZ) and Lindsey Morse (Brookline, MA) finished 26th in the 40 boat field. "The four rowed well and implemented a lot of the things we worked on in practice during the week," McCracken said. "We were a bit further behind the top boats than we would like so while we rowed well, it shows that we still have a lot of work to do over the coming months."
In the women's pair event, Bonnie Scott (Plainview, NY) and Stephanie DeFlora (Basking Ridge, NJ) finished second to the entry from Cornell. "Steph and Bonnie did a fantastic job today," added McCracken. "The pair is a difficult boat to row, but they handled it well despite only getting to practice in it three times."
The Colonials return to action on Saturday, November 1 at the Head of the Occoquan in Woodbridge, VA. The race will be the first competition for the team's novice squad.
