Ranney Added to Men's Soccer Recruiting Class

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington men's soccer head coach George Lidster has announced incoming freshman Marcus Ranney will join the Colonials for the 2007 season.
"Marcus comes to us having a high level of success at both the high school and club level," said Lidster, who is entering his 20th season at GW. "He has a tremendous pace and work rate and we feel he is capable to contribute upon his arrival this fall."
Ranney started three of his four seasons at Thomas S. Wootton High School in Rockville, MD, earning honorable mention all-state honors as a senior in 2006. The 6-0 midfielder also was named first team All-Montgomery County and second team All-Gazette this season. Ranney, who plays club soccer for the Olney Pumas, was a team captain for the 9-6 Patriots last fall.
Ranney is the fourth member of GW's 2007 recruiting class. Lidster and his staff added defender Kory Trott (Mickleton, NJ/Tower Hill School), forward Steve Wujek (Cincinnati, OH/Archbishop Moeller) and goalkeeper Erik Haug (Laguna Beach, CA/Laguna Beach) in March.
GW posted a 5-9-3 overall record in 2006, 2-5-2 in Atlantic 10 play. The Colonials are set to return 21 players for the Fall 2007 season, including A-10 All-Rookie Team selection Andrew Stadler, leading scorer Thomas Stuber, team co-captain Matt Davis and starting goalkeeper Greg Yahr.
