Gymnastics Takes Fifth At EAGL Championships

COLLEGE PARK, MD - The George Washington Colonials finished in fifth place at the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championships on Friday night at the Comcast Center with 192.775 points. Freshman Christa Devine had the best performance on the day for GW with a season high 9.85 on the uneven parallel bars, placing her in a tie for third place on the event.
The Colonials started the meet on the floor and all six gymnasts scored at least a 9.7 or better. Senior Jess Guilbert, who was just named second team All-EAGL in the exercise, led the way for GW with a 9.75. Junior McKenzie Parrack opened the rotation for the Colonials with a 9.725. Senior Maggie Parrack, juniors Carolyn Marckesano and Gillian Coleman, as well as freshman Megan Quinn all scored a 9.7. GW's first rotation totaled at 48.575 which was good enough for fourth place after one event.
The Colonials struggled on vault but managed to score a 47.750. Senior Jess Guilbert led the way once again for GW with a 9.725. Junior McKenzie Parrack, who was named second team All-EAGL on the vault, scored a 9.7. Senior Emily Howarth and sophomore Kristen Simpson also had a solid performances with a 9.6 and 9.575, respectively. Junior Carolyn Marckesano took some extra steps en route to a 9.15 to round out the scorers for the Colonials. GW fell to xxxxx place after two events.
GW picked the perfect time to record their season high on the uneven parallel bars with a 48.825. All six competitors scored at least a 9.7, and freshman Christa Devine and junior McKenzie Parrack, both whom were named second team All-EAGL on the event, led the way for the Colonials. Devine led the pack with a season high 9.85 which ties her for eighth on GW's all-time list on the event. McKenzie Parrack matched her career high with a 9.8. Freshman Megan Quinn also turned in a season high 9.775. Seniors Maggie Parrack and Abbey Myles, as well as junior Gillian Coleman, all turned in 9.7s for the Colonials. After three events the Colonials have totaled 145.150 total points which places them in xxxxx place with one rotation to go.
GW hit the balance beam in their fourth and final rotation and scored a 47.625, finishing with 192.775 total points. Freshman Megan Quinn led the way on beam with a 9.65. Junior Gillian Coleman and freshman Lindsay Tom tied for second on the team with a pair of 9.625s. Junior Carolyn Marckesano took fourth on the team with a 9.525 while senior Jess Guilbert finished with a 9.2.
