WASHINGTON, DC - No. 8/t9 George Washington returns to the Smith Center for the first time in three weeks on Thursday to host Duquesne at 7:00 pm. GW burst into the national Top 10 for the first time since the 1991-92 season earlier this week.
No. 8/t9 GW (19-2, 8-0 A-10) has won 12 consecutive games following a Dec. 7 loss at Tennessee, tying the seventh longest streak in the nation and fourth longest in school history. The Colonials will also put their 10-game home winning streak on the line, tied as the 14th longest home-court streak in the country.
A victory over the Dukes would mark the earliest any GW women's basketball team has reached 20 wins and would be head coach Joe McKeown's 18th 20-win season, at both New Mexico State and GW, and the program's 16th.
The Colonials are 44-5 all-time against the Dukes, including a 21-0 mark at the Smith Center.
Junior Kimberly Beck earned a share of her second Atlantic 10 Player of the Week award on Monday after scoring 16 points and moving into third place on GW's career assists list at Richmond on Saturday. She leads GW and the A-10 with 117 total assists. Sophomore Jessica Adair is averaging 13.4 ppg on league-leading 55.4 percent shooting from the field. Junior Sarah-Jo Lawrence is averaging 17.0 points, 7.7 boards and 4.3 assists over her last three games.
Duquesne (7-14, 2-6 A-10) has lost five-in-a-row and 11 of its last 13 games, including a 74-65 loss to Fordham at the Palumbo Center on Sunday. Preseason second team All-Atlantic 10 selection Loui Hall paces the Dukes in scoring (14.6 ppg) and rebounding (6.8 rpg).
