Gymnastics Sweeps Each Individual Event in Win over James Madison

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington gymnastics team swept the top three finishers in three of the four events, and scored a season high 192.650 to defeat James Madison in a dual meet Monday night. Kristen Simpson and McKenzie Parrack both scored a career-high 9.9 on the vault, which ranks second on GW's all-time vault performance list, and was the top performance by any GW gymnast so far this season. A Colonial won each individual event on the night.
The Colonials started the night on the vault and scored a season-high 48.9. Behind Simpson and Parrack were Emily Howarth (9.725), Carolyn Marckesano (9.7) and Jess Guilbert (9.675). These five gymnasts swept the top five individuals on the vault.
GW had a consistent top five on the bars and recorded a combined score of 48.275. Maggie Parrack led the way with a 9.75. McKenzie Parrack and Christa Devine took second on the team with a 9.675. Megan Quinn and Gillian Coleman rounded out the scorers with a 9.6 and 9.575, respectively. These five swept the top five in this event as well.
Next on the night was the balance beam where the Colonials were upset by the Dukes, 47.725 to 47.675. Christa Devine led GW with a 9.7 to win the individual title while Quinn and Coleman both had solid performances notching a 9.625 and 9.575.
The final event on the night was the floor exercise and the tri-captains (Guilbert, Maggie Parrack and Marckesano) veteran experience really showed. Guilbert and Parrack led the way with both receiving a 9.75. Marckesano also turned in a 9.6. Also scoring on the vault was Quinn with a 9.625 and Coleman with a 9.075. Guilbert, Parrack, Quinn and Marckesano took the top four spots on the event.
The Colonials will be in action on Sunday when they compete in a quad meet at Ohio State, along with Kentucky, and fellow EAGL member, West Virginia at 2:00 pm. On friday, March 9 they travel to Kent State for a 7:00 pm start.
