Gymnastics Takes Fourth at Hearts Invitational

RALEIGH, NC - The George Washington gymnastics team took fourth place in the Hearts Invitational Saturday night with a combined score of 191.175. Nebraska took first with 196.975 and was followed by two East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) members, West Virginia (194.7) and North Carolina State (194.6). William & Mary took fifth with 186.225.
The Colonials were led by Jess Guilbert and Carolyn Marckesano who led the team in two events apiece. Guilbert led GW on the balance beam with a 9.6 and tied for the team lead with Marckesano and Maggie Parrack with a 9.775 on the floor exercise. Marckesano also led George Washington on the vault with a 9.725.
The Colonials performed best on the floor exercise with a 48.625. McKenzie Parrack and Gillian Coleman rounded out a solid top five scoring a 9.75 and 9.55 respectively on the event.
GW was also solid on the vault with Marckesano leading the way followed by Guilbert, McKenzie Parrack, Emily Howarth and Christa Devine all scoring at least a 9.5. George Washington scored a combined 48.250 on the event.
Christa Devine showed the way for the Colonials on bars with a 9.675 while Abbey Myles, Gillian Coleman and Maggie Parrack notched a 9.625, 9.575 and 9.525 respectively.
GW returns home on Monday, February 26 at 7:00 pm to take on the James Madison Dukes. Admission is $4 for adults, $2 for youth, and $1 for groups.
