Gymnastics Takes Third at Tar Heel Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, NC - The George Washington Gymnastics team took third at the Tar Heel Invitational at the Carmichael Auditorium in Chapel Hill, NC on Sunday afternoon. The Colonials finished with 190.975 total points, falling to East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) rivals North Carolina (194.525) and North Carolina State (193.975). GW finished ahead of James Madison, (183.150) who will travel to GW on February 26, and Wisconsin-Oshkosh (182.325).
GW's best event on the day was the vault where they finished with 48.250 points. Senior Jess Guilbert led the Colonials with a 9.7 while Emily Howarth, Carolyn Marckesano, McKenzie Parrack and Kristen Simpson also scored at least a 9.6.
The Colonials alsco scored a 48.1 on the floor exercise and were once again led by Guilbert who posted a 9.775 which was good for third place overall. McKenzie Parrack also performed well with a 9.675.
GW finished second as a team on the bars with 48.050 total points. Christa Devine, Maggie Parrack and Megan Quinn each scored a 9.635.
The Colonials struggled on the beam with 46.575 points. Marckesano and Lindsay Tom led GW with a 9.65 and 9.625 respectively.
GW is back in action Saturday, February 16 at 7:00 pm when they travel to NC State to compete in the Hearts Invitational with the Wolfpack, Nebraska, William & Mary, and fellow EAGL member West Virginia. The Colonials will be back home at the Charles E. Smith Athletic Center Monday, February 26, when they host James Madison at 7:00 pm. Tickets to the meet on the 26th are $4 for adults, $2 for children, and $1 for groups.
