PHILADELPHIA, PA - George Washington senior Sarah-Jo Lawrence has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Co-Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Lawrence's career-night propelled the Colonials to an upset of 10th-ranked Texas A&M at Smith Center Thursday.
Lawrence scored a career-high 29 points and added seven rebounds and three steals to lead GW to Thursday's 66-65 overtime victory against the Aggies. She was 11-of-22 from the field, including a three-pointer with four seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime. The weekly award is the second of Lawrence's career, first since Dec. 18, 2005.
The 11 field goals were the most for a GW player since former A-10 Player of the Year Cathy Joens made 11 in Feb. 2004.
Lawrence added 14 points and career-high eight assists in the Colonials rout of Loyola Marymount, 85-46, on Tuesday. For the week, Lawrence averaged 21.5 points on 17-of-31 shooting (54.8 percent), 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals.
GW re-entered the Associated Press Top 25 at No. 22 on Monday. The Colonials wrap a three-game homestand against Pepperdine on Sunday, Dec. 30, at 4:00 pm.
