WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington men's soccer forwards Abimbola Pedro and Andy Stadler have been chosen to the Middle Atlantic Region Third Team as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and adidas Thursday.
Pedro, a senior, and Stadler, a sophomore, are GW's first all-region selections since Ben Mortimer received third team honors in 2004. The Colonials program has had 22 all-region selections dating back to 1974.
Stadler (20 points) and Pedro (19) finished fourth and fifth in the Atlantic 10 in scoring, respectively. Despite missing five matches due to injury, Stadler still finished second in the league with 1.43 points-per-game on a team-best seven goals and six assists. Stadler, who was an A-10 All-Rookie Team selection in 2006, notched a point in seven consecutive matches at one point and was named to the DC College Cup All-Tournament Team this fall.
Pedro led the Colonials with seven assists and added six goals despite sitting out three matches with an injury. An honorable mention All-Conference pick two seasons ago, Pedro was named to the All-Tournament teams at both the DC College Cup and Longwood Lancer Invitational this season.
GW won its last two matches to finish 9-8-2 overall in 2007, the program's first winning season since 2004. The Colonials posted a 6-4-0 mark in non-conference play, highlighted by their first-ever DC College Cup title and a 2-0 victory over intra-District rival Georgetown. GW was 3-4-2 in league play and missed the six-team A-10 Tournament by three points.
