WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington women's basketball team checked in at No. 14 in the preseason Associated Press Top 25 rankings Saturday, the third highest preseason AP ranking in program history.

The No. 14 AP ranking comes on the heels of Wednesday's preseason ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Top 25 poll, which listed the Colonials at No. 13, the highest preseason coaches' poll ranking in program history. The ranking also marks head coach Joe McKeown's 100th career appearance in the weekly poll. McKeown has led GW to 91 weeks of AP Top 25 rankings, including 27 weeks in the national Top 15. He also guided New Mexico State to nine weeks in the AP Top 25 during his three-year stint with the program from 1986-89.
GW was No. 11 in the AP rankings prior to the 1992-93 season and No. 13 in the initial 1998-99 season poll. GW captured its sixth straight Atlantic 10 regular-season title en route to a 28-4 overall record and appearance in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 last year. The Colonials spent 17 weeks in the AP poll in 2006-07, peaking at No. 8 and finishing the year at No. 14.
GW will host six teams that are ranked or receiving votes in the preseason AP poll: No. 3 Rutgers, No. 11 Texas A&M, Auburn (52 votes), Xavier (38), Kentucky (1) and South Dakota St. (1). The Colonials also travel to A-10 rival Temple, which received one vote in the preseason poll. The Nov. 18 showdown against defending national runner-up Rutgers will be broadcast on ESPNU, and Jan. 13 game against Xavier will air live on ESPN2.
GW rolled past DT3, 95-68, in its lone exhibition tune-up Friday. Junior Antelia Parrish nearly posted a triple-double, finishing with 18 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists in her initial Division I experience after transferring from Prince George's Community College. The Colonials begin the 2007-08 season next Friday, Nov. 9, at Maryland-Baltimore County at 7:30 pm.
