PHILADELPHIA, PA - George Washington senior All-America candidate Kimberly Beck has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Beck earned Most Valuable Player honors in helping the Colonials win both games in the GW Thanksgiving Classic last weekend.
Beck posted consecutive double-doubles and averaged 17 points, 11 assists and five steals as No. 17/15 GW defeated South Dakota State (65-60) and Western Kentucky (80-63) in the Classic. Beck, who garners her fourth career Player of the Week award, had 16 points, 10 assists and four steals against the Jackrabbits Friday, then added 18 points, 12 assists and six steals versus the Lady Toppers in Saturday's finale. The 12 assists tied for the seventh most in a single-game in program history.
A preseason Wooden Award candidate, Beck leads the A-10 with 7.0 assists per game and is 27 assists shy of breaking Kathy Marshall's 23-year-old career program record of 580.
Junior Jessica Adair was named to the Classic's All-Tournament Team after averaging 20.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in the two victories. Senior Sarah-Jo Lawrence contributed 14.5 points per game and became the 24th member of GW's 1,000-point club in Saturday's victory against Western Kentucky.
The Colonials, who improved one spot to No. 16 in Monday's Associated Press Top 25, return to action Tuesday at James Madison at 7:00 pm. The Dukes own the nation's longest home-court winning streak at 28 games.
