Post-Game Quotes
GW Coach Joe McKeown
Opening statement
"As an exhibition game, it is what it is. You have to take some things out of it on a positive note. We have a lot of people who are coming off of injuries and haven't had much practice, but we've struggled in practice because we've had so many people hurt. So it's good to get this under our belt. The biggest thing for us will be to trying to get people playing together and blending people in."
On Antelia Parrish's debut
"Everything for her is new. She hasn't played in a year, so she's still trying to find her way on the floor. She has good natural instincts and natural talent, so it's more of a question of getting minutes under her belt, getting in shape, getting comfortable....By time we get to the Atlantic 10 schedule, I think she'll be a more consistent player."
Were there any specific things you were looking for tonight?
"I was trying to get Jazmine [Adair] going. She had a great freshman year, and sat out a lot last year. She's Bill Russell, really. She changes the game defensively, rebounds, blocks shots. She just hasn't been able to practice a lot. I know when we play Rutgers and teams like that, her presence can change the game. To compete on a national level, she needs to play well for us."
On Erica Rivera's first game
"As the only freshman, it's been tough for her to try and adjust to a veteran team. I think she's going to be a really good player for us. Tonight, you saw glimpses of what she's capable of. But like any freshman, everything's new. She needs to get stronger and quicker, and learn how to make open shots."
Junior forward Antelia Parrish
Talk about your first experience with GW basketball
"It was good. I was definitely nervous a little bit, but my team helped me get through it. After the first few minutes of running up and down the court, it was just basketball. I've definitely come a long way learning the offense, but I feel comfortable now."
Senior guard Kimberly Beck
Is the team more offensively minded this year?
"We added some offensive weapons. Losing Kenan was hard, but with Antelia and Erica [Rivera] and Stefani [Munro], we have a lot more threats out there who can score."
Conversely, you gave up 68 points tonight, more than all but a handful of games last year. Do you have some defensive issues to work on?
"There are definitely things on our defense that we need to clean up. We don't want to give up 70 points a game; that's not GW. We'll go into practice tomorrow and clean it up. But this early in the season, we expect stuff like that."
