Greg McKay Named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington men's soccer senior Greg McKay was named to ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-District II First Team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday. Classmate Thomas Stuber was voted to the second team for the second straight season.
McKay, who received second team honors last fall, becomes the first GW men's soccer player to earn first team accolades since Matt Osborne was chosen to the first team en route to being named Verizon's Academic All-America Team Member of the Year in 2002.
A history and psychology major, McKay is fourth on the team with three goals and six points this season. GW's starting central midfielder was named to the Longwood Lancer Invitational All-Tournament Team in September and netted the golden goal in a 1-0 victory against Richmond Oct. 7. A team co-captain, McKay has been named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll, which recognizes student-athletes from around the league who post a 3.5 GPA or higher, in each of his six semesters at GW.
Stuber, a psychology major, has two assists this season after pacing the Colonials with six goals and 15 points in 2006. Stuber, one of four players to appear in all 15 matches for GW this fall, has been named to the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll in five of his six semesters.
McKay now joins 87 other first team recipients from eight districts on the national Academic All-America ballot. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a scale of 4.00. CoSIDA District II is comprised of Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
