Men's Soccer Slips at Coastal Carolina, 4-3

CONWAY, SC - The George Washington men's soccer team battled back from a one-goal deficit to take a 3-2 halftime lead, but couldn't maintain the advantage in the second half and fell to the host Coastal Carolina Chanticleers 4-3 on Saturday evening. The loss ends the Colonials two-match winning streak.
GW (5-4-0) sophomore Erick Perez-Segnini netted his fifth goal of the season off an assist from senior Abimbola Pedro at the 24:01 mark of the first half, but Coastal Carolina got the equalizer just 23 seconds later and took a 2-1 lead in the 34th minute. Pedro now has a team-leading six assists this season.
The Colonials fired back on sophomore Kyle Albrecht's first tally of the season just over a minute after the Chanticleers took their lead.
Sophomore Andrew Kroculick ended a high-scoring first 45 minutes with his first goal of the year 39 seconds before the intermission to give GW a 3-2 edge. Senior Thomas Stuber and rookie Steve Wujek were credited with assists. The point is the first of Wujek's collegiate career.
Coastal Carolina (4-5-1) would capitalize on a pair of free kicks to deal the Colonials a loss in their eighth consecutive one-goal affair. Djamel Bekka knotted the match at 3-3 with a free-kick strike in the 64th minute and MKohokheli Dube knocked in the game-winner nine minutes later.
Albrecht and sophomore Byron Walker had chances late in the match, but couldn't push the Colonials through for the eqaulizer.
CCU held a slim 16-15 advantage in shots and 8-3 edge in corners, while GW led in shots on goal 8-5.
Senior goalkeeper Greg Yahr was forced to make just one save in 90 minutes of action. Counterpart Phillip Latham turned away five shots.
GW returns to the District this week, but will travel to Georgetown Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 3:00 pm.
