Golf Places 17th at Xavier Invitational

LOVELAND, OH - The George Washington golf team combined to shoot a three-round 888 to place 17th in the 20-team Xavier Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at the par-72, 6,921-yard Oasis Golf Course near Cincinnati. Marquette won the event with at 23-under-par 841, two strokes ahead of runner-up Western Carolina (843).
GW senior Conor McMahon was the low Colonial with a 218 that included a third-round 70 on Tuesday. He placed 40th among 104 individuals. McMahon took advantage of the par-5 holes and averaged 4.25 strokes and was a total on 9-under on the par 5s.
Western Kentucky's Brent Long was the individual medalist with a 13-under 203 (67-68-67), one stroke ahead of Akron's Colin Clemente (69-69-66--204)
GW senior Tim Johnson tied for 55th with a 221 (77-72-72) while two-time A-10 Rookie of the Week Brendan Barrack fired a 223 (74-73-76) to tie for 67th.
The Colonials next play in the 36-hole Penn-Big 5 Classic, Oct. 13-14, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania at the Philadelphia Cricket Club.
