Golf Places Sixth at Penn's Big 5 Classic

FLOURTOWN, PA -- George Washington senior Tim Johnson carded a second-round 70 en route to a two-round 150 to finish in a three-way tie for 13th place, Saturday and Sunday, at the 36-hole Big 5 Classic near Philadelphia. The Colonials placed sixth in the 15-team field at the par-71, 6,867-yard Philadelphia Cricket Club in Flourtown, PA. The tournament is hosted by the University of Pennsylvania.
Johnson shaved two strokes off his score in the same event last year when he fired a 152 and tied for ninth place. GW placed eighth in last year's Big 5 Classic. His teammate Conor McMahon was in contention after his first-round 73 but carded a second-round 79 to tie for 20th.
Cornell won the tournament with a 27-over par 595, four strokes ahead of runners-up Seton Hall and Boston College, each with 599. George Mason's J.J. Amoruso won the individual crown with an even-par 142 (71-71) to edge BC's Craig Kublin (71-72--143) by a stroke.
The Colonials next compete in the 36-hole Sea Scape Collegiate hosted by Old Dominion, Oct. 29-30, at Kitty Hawk, NC.
