Softball Places Nine on NFCA Academic Scholar-Athlete Team

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University softball team had nine athletes earn National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) 2005-06 Academic Scholar-Athlete honors, as announced by the NFCA. As a team, the Colonials' 3.39 cumulative grade-point-average, ranked 13th best among 96 reporting Division I Institutions.
Seniors Elana Meyers and Gabby Culp, along with juniors Lisa Cohen, Katy Harrigan, Colleen Kegler, Hilary King, Katie Miller, and Jackie Yaniga, as well as sophomore Carrie Higdon each earned NFCA Academic Scholar-Athlete accolades for the 2005-06 season. Meyers also received A-10 Academic All-Conference honors by being named Student-Athlete of the Year.
In order to be recognized as an NFCA Academic Scholar-Athlete, an individual must achieve a 3.5 or better GPA on a 4.0 scale.
The Colonials open their 2007 campaign under first-year Head Coach Kim Staehle in Macon, GA competing in the Mercer Ramada Inn Classic from Feb. 23-25. The Colonials will make their home opener on Feb. 27 in a doubleheader versus Maryland-Baltimore Co. at 1:00 pm.
