Gymnastics Finishes Runner-Up at GW/Lindsey Ferris Invitational

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University gymnastics team opened its 2007 season Sunday afternoon hosting its annual GW/Lindsey Ferris Invitational at the Charles E. Smith Athletic Center. The Colonials finished runner-up with a score of 190.0 out of four squads led by meet highs of 47.7 on the beam and 47.525 on the floor exercise. The Colonials also scored a 46.675 on vault and 48.1 on bars. At least one Colonial finished in the top three in all four events.
Defending East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Champion, North Carolina won the team title for the fifth straight year with a score of 190.650. Cornell claimed third with 185.925 and William & Mary took fourth with 184.625.
GW was led by junior McKenzie Parrack who finished second overall in both the bars with a 9.750, the best performance for a Colonial on the afternoon, and a career-high 9.675 on the floor exercise. The older Parrack, Maggie also earned a second place finish with a 9.65 on vault. She also placed fifth overall on the floor with a 9.575.
Junior Gillian Coleman took third overall on both the bars with a 9.675 and the floor exercise with a 9.60 and seemed to show no effects from last season's injury.
Sophomores Kristen Simpson and Bree Plotsker both placed third in their specialty events with Simpson on vault with a 9.625 and Plotsker on the balance beam with a 9.675.
Senior Jess Guilbert, who received the Lindsey Ferris "Attitude is Everything" award prior to the event took fourth on the beam with a 9.625.
Freshman Christa Devine had a solid collegiate debut scoring at least a 9.5 in all three of her events.
The Colonials are back in action next week when they travel to Denton, TX to take on the defending Division 2 National Champions, Texas Woman's University, along with Oklahoma University and Centenary. GW returns home on Feb. 26 when they go head-to-head versus James Madison at 7:00 pm.
