WASHINGTON, DC - The No. 11/13 George Washington women's basketball team tips-off a four-game road swing with a Sunday afternoon showdown at Atlantic 10 rival Xavier. The 2:00 pm game will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
No. 11/13 GW (15-2, 4-0 A-10) takes its eight-game winning streak, tied for the 11th longest in the nation as of Friday, into the Cintas Center, where the Colonials are 2-4 since the building opened for the 2000-01 season. The last three series meetings and eight of the past 13 have been decided by nine points or less.
The Colonials dispatched Rhode Island 61-45 at the Smith Center on Thursday to extend their home-court winning streak to 10 games, which stands tied for the 18th longest in the country. The victory was also GW's 18th straight over the Rams at the Smith Center and now gives the team the best start in program history. Junior Kimberly Beck scored a team-high 17 points and handed out a game-high six assists to pace GW. Sophomore Jessica Adair added 16 points and nine boards, followed by senior Kenan Cole's 11 markers.
Xavier (14-5, 2-1 A-10) wrapped up its non-conference schedule on Wednesday with an 89-76 victory at cross-town rival Cincinnati. Rookie standout Amber Harris leads the Musketeers in scoring (16.2 ppg), rebounds (8.2 rpg) and blocks (3.63 bpg). XU opened league-play with wins over Dayton and Saint Louis, but lost at Charlotte last Sunday.
