PHILADELPHIA, PA -- George Washington's Brian Carroll (Crystal Lake, IL) has been named to the Atlantic 10 Golf Academic All-Conference team in voting conducted among the Conference's Sports Information Directors, the conference office announced Monday. To be eligible for Academic All-Conference consideration, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average for their collegiate career and be a starter or important reserve.
The Colonials' co-captain competed in 14 tournaments during the 2005-06 season, placing among the top 10 a total of 10 times and has a pair of top-20 finishes as well. He led GW with a 72.6 stroke average over 31 rounds. He shot a season-low round of 67 in the Hargrove B. Davis Invitational and he won the Joe Agee Invitational on Oct. 4 at Williamsburg, VA, leading GW to the team title.
A three-time golf team MVP, Carroll is one of four finalists for the prestigious National Byron Nelson Award, the second-highest award in college golf. He was named the recipient of the 2006 J. Dallas Shirley Senior Male Athlete of the Year Award on May 8. Carroll maintains a 3.49 grade point average as a finance major. He has been a member of George Washington's Dean's List three semesters and the GW Athletic Dean's List all seven semesters. He also is a three-time member of the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll. He is enrolled in GW's School of Business and Public Management and is one of two golf representatives on GW's Student-Athlete Advisory Council.
Carroll is joined on the men's golf Academic All-Conference team by Charlotte's Andrew DiBitetto, Jonas Enander Hedin and Ray Sheedy along with Richmond's John Pelet. Carroll is the only repeat member of last year's Academic All-Conference team when he also was named the 2005 Student-Athlete of the Year for golf. Carroll also is a two-time Academic All-America selection.
