ARLINGTON, VA - The College of Williams and Mary (11-22) scored 13 runs on 13 hits and held George Washington University (11-21) to three hits as the Tribe easily took care of the Colonials, 13-1, Tuesday afternoon at Barcroft Park.
William and Mary scored four times in the top of the first inning and led 11-0 after the sixth.
Third baseman Greg Sexton went 2-for-4 in the game including a two-run home run (4) in the first inning. Overall, four Tribe hitters collected two or more hits including second baseman James Williams who went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.
Making his first start of the year after 20 relief appearances, LHP Pete Vernon (2-1) held GW to two hits and no runs while striking out six in 6.0 innings to earn the win.
Four Tribe pitchers combined to allow just one hit in the final three innings.
The Colonials' lone run came in the eighth inning when pinch hitter Andrew Haberern (Emmaus, PA / Trinity College / Emmaus) led off with a walk, advanced to third after two wild pitches and scored on a RBI ground out from third baseman Tom Shanley (Stanfordville, NY / Pine Plains).
RHP Brian Frazier (0-4) started for GW and did not make it out of the first inning, suffering the loss.
The Colonials head to Olean, NY, to open a three-game Atlantic 10 Conference series against St. Bonaventure.
Game one is set for Thursday at 3:00 PM. RHP Derrik Lutz (1-2, 1.66 ERA) will take the mound for GW.
