Gymnastics Places 12 on EAGL All-Academic Team

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University gymnastics team had 12 gymnasts earn East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) All-Academic honors, as announced by conference officials on Monday. The Colonials, who had 11 honorees last year in their first season in the EAGL, had the third-most qualifiers in the eight team league along with West Virginia, including eight repeat selections.
For the Colonials, seniors Tiffany Jones (Ravenna, OH), Heather Kaufman (Austin, TX) and Amy Stack (Matthews, NC), juniors Jess Guilbert (Roswell, GA), Emily Howarth (Columbus, OH) and Abbey Myles (Waxhaw, NC), and sophomores Carolyn Marckesano (Reston, VA) and McKenzie Parrack (Richardson, TX) were each named to the team for the second consecutive season. Junior Maggie Parrack (Richardson, TX), and freshmen Cammie Jones (Ravenna, OH), Erin Quigg (Chantilly, VA) and Kristen Simpson (Surfside, SC) each made the team for the first time.
GW, along with North Carolina and Rutgers, were the only schools to have at least eight repeat selections from the previous year. The Tar Heels had 10 honorees, which were all repeat selections, while the Scarlet Knights had eight.
Rutgers had the most honorees for the second straight season with 16, while North Carolina State ranked second with 14. In order to be named to the EAGL All-Academic team, student-athletes must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher in the two previous semesters. Freshmen were also eligible if they had earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the fall semester.
A total of 89 student-athletes from the eight schools in the EAGL comprised this year's All-Academic team. The 89 honorees is the second-highest total in the 11-year history of the league, as only last year's 95 recipients eclipsed this year's total.
GW returns to action when it travels to Raleigh, NC, on Friday, March 17, for a quad meet hosted by NC State along with Maryland and New Hampshire at 7 p.m.
