WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington women's basketball program signed Erica Rivera to a National Letter of Intent (NLI) during the early signing period, head coach Joe McKeown has announced.
Rivera, a 5-8 point/shooting guard from Elizabeth City, NC, averaged 17 points, seven steals, four assists and three rebounds to help Pasquotank County High School to a 21-5 record as a junior in 2005-06. Rivera guided the Lady Panthers to a regular season Northeastern Coastal Conference title and a trip to the sectional championship game last year. Rivera also plays for the Boo Williams AAU squad, considered one of the nation's top amateur teams and the same program that produced Kodak All-American and current GW assistant coach Tajama (Abraham) Ngongba.
"Erica is one of the top point guards in North Carolina," said McKeown. "We're really excited to have her, I think she'll be a terrific addition to our backcourt. I'm excited about her ability to shoot the ball and score, and I think her personality will fit well into our team. Our staff worked very hard in recruiting her, I think she made a great choice."
No. 21/19 GW (7-2) is coming off an 85-62 loss at Tennessee on Thursday night and hosts Liberty at the Smith Center on Sunday at 2:00 pm.
