WASHINGTON, DC - The nationally-ranked George Washington women's basketball team makes its first trip away from the Capital District to face Stony Brook on Saturday at 3:00 pm. Game-time was originally scheduled for 2:00 pm.
No. 21/20 GW (6-1) has won its last two games since posting a 2-1 mark at the BTI Classic in College Park, MD, two weeks ago. The Colonials soundly beat Villanova, 73-47, at the Smith Center on Wednesday and rallied to knock off James Madison, 68-56, last Saturday. Sophomore Jessica Adair posted double-doubles in both victories.
GW won the only other meeting in the series, 77-55 at the Smith Center last December. Colonials' head coach Joe McKeown served as an assistant under current Seawolves' coach Maura McHugh at the University of Oklahoma from 1983-86.
The Colonials' 6-1 start ties for the third best in school history with the 1977-78 and 1980-81 campaigns. After starting the 1991-92 season by splitting against nationally-ranked teams Texas (W, 70-62) and Stanford (L, 74-71), GW won 11 straight games for the best start in program annals. Three years later the Colonials put together six- and five-game winning streaks around a neutral site loss to Penn State for an 11-1 start.
