PHILADELPHIA, PA - George Washington sophomore women's basketball player Jessica Adair has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Co-Player of the Week the league office announced on Monday. In addition, the Colonials rose to No. 21 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 Poll.
Adair, a center/forward, scored 16 points, grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds and blocked a career-best four shots to guide the nationally-ranked Colonials to a 68-56 come-from-behind victory over James Madison at Smith Center on Saturday. It was Adair's first double-double of the season and second of her career. It was also her first career Player of the Week award after twice earning conference Rookie of the Week accolades last year. Adair split the honor with La Salle's Crista Ricketts, who has earned at least a share of the first three A-10 Player of the Week awards.
After missing the first two games of the season, Adair has become GW's most dominant post presence, averaging a team-best 8.8 rebounds, along with 14.5 points and 2.5 blocks, in four games. She scored a career-high 22 points against Arizona on Nov. 17 in her first outing of the season.
The Colonials moved two spots to No. 21 in this week's AP Top 25 Poll, moving ahead of Kentucky, UCLA and BYU. GW non-conference opponents Maryland (No. 1), Tennessee (No. 4) and Georgia (No. 8) remained unbeaten and did not move in the rankings.
GW hosts Villanova at Smith Center on Wednesday at 7:00 pm. The first 200 students to arrive at Wednesday's game will receive a voucher for a free ticket to the BB&T Classic (Sunday, Dec. 3 at Verizon Center), which will be redeemable at the Smith Center ticket office at halftime. The next 200 students will receive free pizza courtesy of Domino's.
