Swimming Splits Dual Meet at Georgetown

Washington, DC - The George Washington men's and women's swimming and diving teams split their dual meet at cross-town rival Georgetown, with the men victorious, 120-96. The women fell to the Hoyas 138-90.
Seven different Colonials won individual events on the day, while freshman Emily Leik was the lone Colonial to take multiple events, the 200-yard IM (2:14.61) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:14.22).
The men swept the 100, 200 and 500-yard freestyle events with sophomore David Zenk (46.73), senior Jeff Cohn (1:46.46), and senior Dan Mahoney (4:56.58) respectively.
The men also were victorious in both the 400-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of freshman Cascade Tuholske and Rick Rogers, paired with seniors Jonathan Sabin and Zenk took the 400-yard medley relay in 3:37.76. Freshman Stephen Cosme teamed with Mahoney, Zenk, and Cohn to claim the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:16.33.
Tuholske also took the 200-yard butterfly, hitting the wall in 2:00.71. Sophomore Tom Pullen was victorious in the 200-yard IM in 2:03.43.
Freshman Cissey Ye was the only other woman to take an individual event. She won the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:06.50. The team of senior Shannon Ma, and a trio of sophomores, Luciana Maggiolo, Laura Myers and Jessica Miga took the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:45.71.
The Colonials swept first and second place in four events on the day. Sophomore Lauren Fuchs took second in the 200-yard IM following Leik in 2:18.11. Mahoney finished second to Cohn in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:47.34. Cosme followed Tuholske in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:01.75. Cohn took second in the 100-yard freestyle in 48.78.
The men took second through fourth place in the 1000-yard freestyle with freshman Zach Hunter taking second (10:39.28), and juniors Drew Boudreau (11:04.62) and Mark DeSimone (11:13.68) respectively.
Ma and Miga took second and third respectively in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.85 and 26.00.
Ye followed up with her victory in the 1000-yard freestyle with a second place finish in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:27.90.
Also earning second place finishes for the men were Pullen in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:22.19, Rogers in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.89 and Sabin in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:58.53. Sophomore Ariana Berdini took second in 200-yard breaststroke in 2:32.12.
The Colonials are back in action next weekend against American and Catholic on Friday and Saturday. Friday will be at Catholic and Saturday's meet will be at American.
