WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington women's basketball team has received National Letters of Intent from three high school basketball players Coach Joe McKeown has announced. Joining the Colonials next season are Ivy Abiona (Cherry Hill East/Cherry Hill, NJ), Stefani Munro (Mount Clemens/Mount Clemens, MI) and Robin Murphy (Stevenson/Conyers, GA).
Abiona is a 6-2 power forward from Cherry Hill East High School. She is a highly touted recruit who averaged a double-double during her junior year. She averaged 12.5 points per game while grabbing 14.2 rebounds. She also averaged 4.4 blocks, 3.2 assists and 1.8 steals. In her first game of her senior season she grabbed 15 rebounds. In joining GW, Abiona will move from playing center to power forward. Her high school coach Kim Keyack thinks that she will successfully make this transition, "She can score at will from the post and is very fast."
Munro is a 5-7 point guard and captain from Mount Clemens High School. She helped lead her team to 24-1 record and League Championship and later lose their only game in the Regional Finals. In her career she scored 1,292 points and had more than 500 assists. For her senior year, Munro averaged 16.7 points per game and eight assists. She was named to the AP All-State First Team and Detroit News and Free Press All-State Second Team and First Team All-East Region. She was the MVP of the Macomb Gold Conference and Macomb County. According to her coach Kurt Wilson, "her leadership and ability to see the floor always helps in a point guard."
Murphy is a 6-2 small forward and honor student from Stevenson High School. In 2005, she was a candidate for the USA Basketball Team and a candidate for Parade All-American and Nike All-American. In 2004, she was a Street & Smith All-American, Addidas All-American while her AAU team was State Champions and finished fourth in the Nation. In 2003, she was a Blue Chip Top 10 All-Star.
