Women's Basketball Plays Xavier at Noon at Smith Center

WASHINGTON, DC - The Colonials (10-4, 3-0) take on Xavier (11-4, 2-2) at Charles E. Smith Athletic Center at noon on Sunday. GW is the last remaining A-10 team unbeaten in conference play after having upset #19/20 Temple on Wednesday. GW is on a four-game winning streak and has not lost a game at home in more than a month while Xavier has yet to win a conference game on the road.
This is the 25th meeting between the teams with the Colonials holding a 14-10 edge over the Musketeers. In their last meeting, GW won in overtime at home by a score of 75-66 on February 20, 2005. In their first meeting last season, Xavier won at home, 57-42. GW is an impressive 9-1 in meetings at Smith Center while Xavier holds the edge at Cintas Center and at neutral sites. Xavier is 3-1 when the teams meet in the A-10 tournament and the Musketeers have won two of three overtime games.
The Colonials come into the game on a four-game winning streak and have won eight of their last nine games. GW's last loss came against North Carolina State on the road and the Colonials have not lost at Smith Center since falling short against #1/1 Tennessee on December 7, 2005. GW is on a seven game home winning streak and is undefeated in 2006.
GW has played one of the toughest schedules in the country so far and is currently ranked eighth in strength of schedule compared to Xavier who is 74th. GW's RPI is 16th against Xavier's 114th. The Colonials are receiving significant votes in both national polls and are ranked 30th in the ESPN Coaches' Poll. Xavier has also received votes in the past weeks after starting 9-2 before going 2-2 in the A-10.
Sunday's game is GW's first A-10 TV game and can be seen on ESPN Full Court among other affiliates. The game will be televised on Comcast in the Philadelphia area as well Fox Sports in Ohio and New England. Tickets are still available for the game at Smith Center.
After playing nine of their last 11 games at home, GW hits the road with two game in New England this coming weekend. The Colonials face Rhode Island on Friday at noon followed by a 2:00 p.m. tip at Massachusetts next Sunday. GW's next home game is against Fordham Friday January 27th at 7:00 p.m.
