SANTA BARBARA, CA - For the second straight game the George Washington University women's soccer team (3-4) went into overtime tied 0-0, but Sunday's fate played out differently as UC Santa Barbara (5-3) scored just over two minutes into the extra frame to defeat the Colonials 1-0 at Harder Stadium.
Sophomore Kathleen Prieto scored off a rebound at the 92:14 mark to lift the Gauchos to their fourth consecutive win.
GW goalkeeper Kelly Paolucci (Lanham, MD/Good Counsel) rejected a shot from junior Allie Kueny but Prieto followed up the loose ball and knocked it in for the game-winner.
Paolucci once again kept GW in the game as the senior recorded nine saves after stopping seven shots Friday night in the Colonials' 1-0 overtime win at San Diego State.
But the UCSB offense was just too much for GW as the Colonials were outshot 26-3 in the contest. The Gaucho's also had 15 corner kicks to the GW's two.
GW returns home after the weekend's two-game California swing and next faces the Eagles at American University on Wednesday. Game time is 3:00 PM
