WASHNGTON, DC - Seniors Trevor Martin, Matt Miller, and Ben Mortimer have been named tri-captains of the 2005 Colonials men's soccer team, Coach George Lidster announced today. The trio will wear the traditional captain's armbands to designate their position during matches.
Martin has started 25-of-50 matches in his career and has 10 points. He posted a season-best five points in 2004, including scoring the game-winning goal against Xavier. He will resume his starting role again this year as one of GW's central midfielders.
Miller is in his second season as team captain, having served as a co-captain on last year's NCAA Tournament squad. He has started 32 matches in his GW career and has eight assists, including four in 2004. This past summer Miller represented the United States at the 2005 Maccabiah Games and helped Team USA to the silver medal.
Mortimer earned NSCAA South Atlantic Region Third Team honors in 2004 and was also a first-team all-conference selection. He has started 51-of-56 career matches and has five goals and three assists. As GW's sweeper last season, he anchored a Colonials defense that posted seven shutouts, including four straight, to help the Colonials win the Atlantic 10 Championship.
GW opens 2005 at the DC College Cup, which will be held at Georgetown University. The Colonials will face American University in its first match on Sept. 2 at 12:00 pm.
