WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington incoming freshman Chantelle John scored 18 points and had 11 rebounds in the Canadian Junior National Team's only victory at the 2005 FIBA U-19 World Championship in Nabeul/Tunis, Tunisia. Canada missed the medal round of the tournament by one game, finishing fifth out of six teams in Pool B after a loss to Spain on July 20.
John led Canada in points and rebounds in the 69-53 triumph over the host Tunisians. She chipped in six points a day later in a 71-44 loss to Hungary that dropped Canada to 1-1 in pool play. John tallied 10 points and grabbed five boards in a 77-60 loss versus China, but scored just four points against Australia on July 19 in an 82-73 defeat. John responded with 10 points against Spain, but it wasn't enough as the Spaniards eliminated Canada from the tournament, 57-37.
Canada finished the tournament with a 1-4 record in Pool B, good enough for fifth place. The top four teams in each pool advanced to the medal round.
The tournament concludes on Sunday, July 24.
