Araceli Gil scored 20 points and Christina Campion notched a double- double with 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead W#3 Richmond (23-6) past E#2 Rhode Island (8-20), 58-46, in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Championship. The Spiders will face W#1 George Washington in the second semifinal on Sunday, March 7 at 4:00 p.m.
The Spiders forced 23 Rhode Island turnovers and outrebounded the Rams, 41-37, in the win. They also held the Rams to 26 percent shooting for the contest (13-50).
Richmond grabbed its first lead of the game with 3:31 to go in the first half and owned a 24-16 margin a the break. Rhode Island never got closer than six points the rest of the way.
The two teams combined to shoot 52 free throws in game. Richmond was 19- of-28 from the charity stripe (.679), while the Rams were 18-of-24 (.750).
