WASHINGTON, DC - The GW women's lacrosse team (4-2, 1-0 Atlantic 10) will play its first home game in almost three weeks on Wednesday, March 30 when it takes on 17th-ranked Towson (6-1, 0-1 CAA) at 3:30 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex. The Colonials have played their last four games on the road, going 3-1 in those contests.
GW saw its three-game winning streak come to an end on Friday, March 25 at Johns Hopkins. The Colonials started strong, but were outscored, 6-2, by the Blue Jays in the second half in the loss.
Sophomore Laura Hostetler and senior Heidi Mayer each scored three times versus the Blue Jays. Sophomore Molly Gannon netted her second and third goals of the campaign as well.
Tomorrow's match will be the second straight game in which GW has faced a ranked foe. The Tigers are 17th in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll and they are 18th in this week's edition of the Insidelacrosse.com power rankings. Towson's only loss of the season came against Delaware on March 25, 13-8, in its Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) opener.
Becky Trubo and Shannon Witzel lead the Tigers with 39 and 31 points, respectively, and the pair combined to record at least one point on 11 of Towson's 16 goals in its win over Richmond on March 27. Mandy Corry is the only goaltender on the Tigers' roster. She has made 62 saves and owns a goals-against average of 7.85.
The Colonials are 0-1 against the Tigers all-time, losing the 2004 season opener by the score of 9-6. Maria Druke and Jamie Lee led the way with two goals in the match and Hostetler notched the first tally of her career in her first collegiate game.
