WASHINGTON, DC - The Colonials women's basketball team (13-7, 6-3 Atlantic 10) will try and take both games of the season series when it hosts Dayton (10-10, 4-5 Atlantic 10) on Sunday, Feb. 6 at 2:00 p.m. at the Smith Center. GW nabbed a victory in the first meeting between the two squads on Jan. 14 in Dayton, OH.
The Colonials are coming off a 65-53 defeat at the hands of La Salle on Feb. 4. In recent years, GW has been resilient following losses to conference foes, having not lost back-to-back games to league opponents since February, 2001.
Senior All-America candidate Anna Montañana became the first Colonial to notch at least 1,000 career points, 500 career rebounds, and 400 career assists with three helpers against La Salle. She now has 402 assists, the fifth-highest total in program history. Against the Explorers, Montañana recorded her third double-double of the season with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Sarah-Jo Lawrence made her fourth career start in the contest and finished with a personal-best four assists.
Dayton owns a 10-10 overall record and is 4-5 in conference competition. The Flyers have won two out of their last three, including a 55-54 victory against Duquesne on Jan. 30.
The Flyers enter the pairing as the Atlantic 10's top rebounding team at 40.7 boards per game. Cara Wright is the team's high rebounder. She ranks sixth in the league at 7.6 boards per game. Emily Williams is the team's top scorer at 10.1 points per game.
Dayton has never defeated GW and the Colonials hold an 18-0 advantage in the all-time series. In the first meeting between the two clubs this season, the game remained close until freshman Kimberly Beck buried three straight three-point baskets to give GW a double-digit first-half lead and the Colonials never looked back. Four Colonials scored in double figures against the Flyers, led by Montañana's 14 points.
