WASHINGTON, DC - The Atlantic 10 Conference Monday announced that George Washington University junior Dan Pfau (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) has been selected as its Pitcher of the Week and freshman Brian Frazier (Allentown, PA / Emmaus) as its Rookie of the Week.
Pfau was instrumental in two big Colonial wins this past week.
With the score tied 4-4 in the bottom of the 10th inning against James Madison University on Wednesday, Pfau entered the game to pitch with the bases loaded and one out. With no room for error, the left-hander was able to get GW out of the jam by inducing a double play to end the inning. After the Colonials scored four times in the top of 11th, Pfau pitched a scoreless bottom-half to earn the win.
Three days later against the number six-ranked University of Miami, GW trailed 4-2 in the eighth inning when Pfau came out of the bullpen and struck out the side.
After the Colonials staged a furious comeback in the top of the ninth to score three runs and take a 5-4 lead, Pfau shutdown the Hurricanes in the bottom of the ninth to preserve the lead and take the win.
In his first-ever collegiate start Tuesday, Frazier was terrific against Old Dominion University.
The right-hander went the distance to earn the complete game for the Colonials as he struck out seven and did not allow an earned run in GW's 6-3 victory.
The Colonials play there home opener Saturday, March 5, when they host Le Moyne College for a doubleheader at Barcroft Park in Arlington, VA. The first pitch is set for 12:00 pm.
GW's original home opener was scheduled for Tuesday, March 1, against Coppin State but that game, along with Wednesday's scheduled contest against Delaware, has been postponed.
