McKeown Shoots for Win No. 425 on Thursday

WASHINGTON, DC - WASHINGTON, DC - GW head coach Joe McKeown shoots for career victory No. 425 when the Colonials (16-7, 9-3 Atlantic 10) take on Saint Joseph's (6-18, 4-8 Atlantic 10) Thursday, Feb. 17 at 7:00 p.m. in Philadelphia. McKeown is 424-152 in 19 seasons as a head coach.
McKeown has 356 victories at GW and became the 41st Division I women's basketball mentor to earn 400 career triumphs on Jan. 31, 2004. He also served as the head coach at New Mexico State for three seasons. McKeown ranks 15th all-time in career winning percentage at .736.
Thursday night's contest is the last road game for GW, which ends the regular season with three straight home games heading into the Atlantic 10 Championship. The Colonials have won their last three games, including defeating Richmond, 63-47, on Feb. 13 in their most recent outing. GW has outscored its opponents by an average of 20.3 points per game during its current victory streak.
The Colonials and Spiders are tied for second in the A-10 West Division at 9-3, one game back of Xavier which is 10-2 in conference play. GW will host Xavier on Sunday, Feb. 20 at the Smith Center.
Against the Spiders, senior Anna Montañana led the way for GW with 20 points and seven assists. Freshman Kimberly Beck, who earned her fifth league Rookie of the Week Award on Feb. 13, contributed five assists in the game and is now one helper shy of tying the GW freshman record for assists held by Kathy Marshall (122).
Saint Joseph's has struggled this season, its fourth season under head coach Cindy Griffin. The Hawks are 6-18 overall this year, a season after winning 22 games. They are only averaging 51.2 points per game in their first 24 outings in 2004-05.
Ayahna Cornish is the Hawks' leading scorer at 11.7 points per game and Erica Pollock is the squad's top rebounder at 5.7 boards per outing. Christine Roth has 52 total field goals for Saint Joseph's, forty-nine of which have come from the behind the three-point arc, and only nine of her field goal attempts this season have been two's.
Saint Joseph's leads the all-time series with the Colonials, 24-18. The Hawks won 14 straight contests against GW from 1982-90. The Buff and Blue won five consecutive pairings before losing twice against Saint Joseph's last season, including a 70-57 defeat in the A-10 Tournament.
