FLOURTOWN, PA -- George Washington's Brian Carroll (Crystal Lake, IL/Crystal Lake South) came within a stroke of winning his second tournament of the season Sunday at the 36-hole Penn/Big 5 Classic. Carroll carded a one-over-par 143 (70-73) to finish second behind Villanova's Steve Arnold at the par-71, 6,843-yard Philadelphia Cricket Club.
Carroll's effort helped the Colonials gain a share of the tournament title with Richmond in the 14-team tournament. However, the Spiders were declared the victors when their No. 5 golfer (David Feeley) shot a 79 on Sunday edging the Colonials No. 5 golfer, Bob Rohr (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest), who shot a second-round 83.
Windy conditions on Sunday made for high scores and GW's Andrew Gallo (Toronto, ONT/Crescent) was the only player to shot under par when he fired a 68. Gallo tied for seventh, one stroke ahead of teammate Tim Johnson whose 148 was good for a three-way tie for ninth place.
The Colonials will close out the Fall portion of the 2005-06 schedule, Oct. 31-Nov. 1, at the Seascape Invitational, hosted by Old Dominion University, at Kitty Hawk, NC.
