WASHINGTON, DC - The Colonials (7-4, 1-0 Atlantic 10) will wrap up the non-conference portion of its schedule on Friday, Jan. 7 when they host Yale (2-9, 0-0 Ivy League) at the Smith Center at 7:00 p.m.
GW started 1-0 in the conference by knocking off Fordham in its most recent outing on Jan. 3. The Colonials scored a season-best 72 points and finished with a season-high 18 steals, the most thefts since the GW defense finished with 19 steals against Dayton on Feb. 20, 2003.
The Buff and Blue are the only team to have two players ranked in the top eight in the league in scoring. All-America candidate Anna Montañana ranks fourth at 15.8 points per game, while senior Jessica Simmonds is eighth with a 15.2 points per game average. Simmonds matched her career-high with 23 points at Fordham.
A victory over Yale would extend GW's home-court winning streak to 12, which would be tied for the fourth-longest home victory streak in team history.
Yale has managed just two wins so far this season, but is coming off a 57-43 triumph against Lafayette on Jan. 5. Turnovers have plagued the Bulldogs all season. They are averaging 25.8 miscues per game and the Ivy Leaguers have also been outscored on average by 9.8 points per game (57.3-67.1).
Ten Bulldogs are averaging more than 10 minutes per game in 2004-05, but no player is averaging 30 minutes per contest. Erica Davis is the team's top scorer (13.9 ppg) and rebounder (7.0 rpg). Tory Mauseth is also scoring in double figures at 10.5 points per outing. Mauseth and Morgan Richards lead the club with 28 assists each.
Friday's game will be the fifth meeting between the two teams. GW and Yale have split the first four pairings, with GW winning the last two, including a 81-57 triumph last year. Prior to that encounter the two squad's hadn't met since 1980.
