WASHINGTON, DC - The Colonials (6-4) tip off Atlantic 10 competition on Monday, Jan. 3 when it visits Fordham (4-8) for a 7:00 p.m. contest at the Rose Hill Gym. GW is looking to get back on the winning track after having its three-game victory streak broken at Boston College.
GW head coach Joe McKeown enters the matchup with 198 career league victories, the most ever by a women's basketball coach at an Atlantic 10 institution. McKeown is 9-0 against the Rams, including a 4-0 mark versus Fordham in the Bronx.
The game is a homecoming of sorts for GW sophomores Amanda LoCascio and Corinne Turner. The duo played their scholastic basketball legendary Christ the King High School in New York.
Senior All-America candidate Anna Montañana once again led the Colonials with 19 points at Boston College and currently ranks fourth in the conference in scoring (16.2 ppg). LoCascio played 14 minutes against the Eagles, her first game action since Nov. 23. She missed six straight games due to injury.
Fordham begin the year by winning three of its first four contest, but has lost six of its last seven. The Rams only win during that time came against Puerto Rico-Mayaguez in the San Juan Shootout on Dec. 22. They dropped their most recent game, 58-51, against Pittsburgh on Dec. 30. However, Fordham's thus far has been the 10th toughest according to the most recent WBCA/Summerville RPI index.
Vanessa Silva leads the team in scoring (11.3 ppg) and rebounding (7.4 rpg). She has also contributed 11 blocks and 12 steals. Preseason All-Conference selection Monica Mack is also scoring in double figures at 10.4 points per game.
The Colonials have won the nine previous meetings versus the Rams, including a 73-45 thrashing at the Smith Center last season.
Fans can listen to the game live over the Internet on GW's student radio station (WRGW Radio) at www.gwradio.com.
