PHILADELPHIA, PA - The GW women's basketball team took home both Atlantic 10 weekly awards last week. Senior All-America candidate Anna Montañana earned her second A-10 Player of the Week Award and freshman Kimberly Beck was named the league's Rookie of the Week for the second time.
Montañana averaged a double-double with 13.5 points and 12.5 rebounds in wins over Massachusetts on Jan. 9 and Dayton on Jan. 14. She also averaged 4.5 assists and 3.0 steals in the two games. Against Massachusetts, the forward scored 13 points to eclipse the 1,000-point mark for her career. She is one of two Colonials to amass at least 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, and 300 assists in her career. Montañana also earned Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors on Dec. 5 after she averaged 19.0 points per game versus Oregon and BYU.
Beck averaged 12.0 points and 6.5 assists in the Colonials' two triumphs. Beck matched her career high with three three-pointers at Dayton, all of which came in the first half. She also tallied six assists against Massachusetts, one short of her career high and also established a personal high with two blocks versus the Minutewomen. The 5-8 guard earned her first Rookie of the Week Award on Dec. 19 for her performances in victories at Virginia Commonwealth and versus Saint Mary's.
The Colonials will host A-10 West Division rival Richmond on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Smith Center.
