Gymnastics Earns Academic All-America Team Honors

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University gymnastics team has earned Academic All-America honors following the 2004 season, as announced by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastic Coaches/Women (NACGC/W). The award marks the fourth consecutive season in which the Colonials have earned NACGC/W Academic All-America accolades as a team. The Colonials' 3.54 cumulative grade-point-average ranked fourth-best among 51 NCAA Division I schools which had a 3.00 team GPA or higher. In addition, nine student-athletes earned individual Academic All-America accolades as GW was one of 10 schools with at least nine individual All-Americans. Recent graduates Lauren Bernstein (St. Louis, MO/Clayton), Rachel Mann (Atlanta, GA/Lakeside), Theresa Miele (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley Central) and Lindsay Parks (Council Bluffs, IA/Abraham Lincoln), seniors Stefanie Tocco (Melrose, MA/Melrose) and Meagan Wilson (Lilburn, GA/Parkview), junior Tiffany Jones (Ravenna, OH/Walsh Jesuit), and sophomores Jess Guilbert (Leesburg, VA/Stone Bridge) and Imogen Dall (Balmoral, NSW, Australia/Ravenswood) each earned Academic All-America honors. The academic honor for Miele was her fourth consecutive, while Tocco made it for the third straight season. Wilson, Jones, Dall and Bernstein are each repeat selections from last year. The Colonials, under 20th-year head coach Margie Cunningham, will open the 2005 season as the newest member of the Eastern Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL). The EAGL Conference consists of eight schools: Maryland, North Carolina, N.C. State, New Hampshire, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Rutgers and GW.
