Colonials Set for Cross-Town Meeting with American

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington men's soccer team (1-1-1) returns to the pitch on Wednesday, September 15, when they meet District rival American (2-3) at 3:00 p.m. at Reeves Field. It will be the third time this season the Colonials will play on American's campus as GW began the year with two contests at the facility in the DC College Cup earlier this month.
The Colonials fought Radford to a double overtime tie, 1-1, on Saturday, September 11. Junior Jon Allen netted GW's lone goal and leads the squad with two tallies on the year. Freshman Matt Davis notched his first career point with an assist on the play and junior goalkeeper Derek Biss made a season-high seven saves in the contest. Biss leads the Atlantic 10 in goals-against average (0.63).
As a team, the Colonials are holding their opponents to less than a goal per game (0.60 GAA) and have outshot their foes, 39-27.
American enters the pairing having lost consecutive contests at the Matador Invitational in Northridge, CA. The Eagles were grounded by Cal-State Northridge on Friday, September 10, 4-3, and lost to Loyola Marymount, 3-2, on Sunday, September 12.
The Eagles have dominated their opponents offensively, holding an 87-56 advantage in shots and a 44-16 margin in corner kicks.
Shawn Kuykendall has notched one-third of the team's nine goals in 2004 and leads the unit with eight points (three goals, two assists). Sal Caccavale and Sean Albright are tied for second on the team with four points each. Thomas Myers has started four of American's five games in goal and owns a 1.47 goals-against average and a .714 save percentage. He has made 15 saves this season.
The Colonials have been shut out by American in the last three meetings between the two teams, including a, 1-0, loss in the first round of the 2002 NCAA Tournament.
