PHILADELPHIA, PA - GW freshman Kimberly Beck has been named the Atlantic 10's Rookie of the Week for her performances in two GW victories last week. She averaged 13.5 points and 6.5 steals in wins against Virginia Commonwealth on Dec. 12 and Saint Mary's on Dec. 17.
Against the Rams on Dec. 12, Beck registered nine steals, the most thefts in a single-game by a GW player since Chasity Myers notched nine steals against La Salle in 1997. Her steals total at VCU is also tied for the second-most in NCAA Division I this season. Beck also chipped in 10 points, four rebounds and three steals in 35 minutes.
Five days later versus Saint Mary's, Beck scored a career-high 17 points and hit a personal-best three trifectas. The 5-8 guard also notched five assists and four steals against the Gaels. Beck made all seven of her free-throw attempts in the two games and was 8-of-12 from the field (.667).
Beck is the first GW freshman to win the conference's Rookie of the Week Award since Anna Montañana earned the honor on Jan. 13, 2002.
The Colonials will put their two-game winning streak on the line on Tuesday, Dec. 21 when they host NC State at 7:00 p.m. in the Smith Center.
