WASHINGTON, DC - After three road games, the GW women's basketball team (4-3) returns home to host Saint Mary's College of California (5-4) on Friday, Dec. 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the Smith Center.
GW hasn't played at home since Dec. 1 and ended its three-game road trip by knocking off Virginia Commonwealth in Richmond on Dec. 12. Senior Jessica Simmonds paced the Colonials with 20 points in the contest. Classmate Anna Montañana chipped in 14 points, putting her over the 900 career-point mark for her career. She now has 909 points during her time at GW. Montañana is currently tied for third place in the Atlantic 10 in scoring at 16.0 points per game.
Freshman Kimberly Beck had her best game in a Colonials' uniform versus the Rams. She tied her career high with 10 points and also recorded nine steals. Beck's nine swipes is tied for second-highest single-game total in Division I this season and also tied her with several players for second on GW's single-game steals ledger.
Saint Mary's is in the midst of a five-game road trip. The Gaels have split the first two games of the road swing, losing to California on Dec. 10 before rebounding to defeat Princeton on Dec. 12.
Triola Jackson is the Gaels top scorer and rebounder at 17.9 points per game and 9.1 boards per game. Evynn Burger is also scoring in double figures for Saint Mary's (10.3 ppg). Burger also leads the team with 14 three-pointers made.
The Gaels are averaging 61.9 points per game and 37.1 rebounds per outing. They are also an excellent free-throw shooting team, connecting on 99-of-139 attempts from the charity stripe.
The two teams have met on the hardwood just once previously. The Colonials won the that pairing, 80-48, in 1987.
