Colonials Open Home Schedule Versus East Carolina

WASHINGTON, DC - The GW women's basketball team (1-0) tips off the home portion of its 2004-05 schedule against Conference USA foe East Carolina (1-0) on Sunday, Nov. 21 at 2:00 p.m. in the Smith Center.
GW is 23-6 in home-opening games since the program began in 1975-76 and is 12-3 in home openers under Coach Joe McKeown.
The Colonials are coming off a 67-62 come-from-behind victory versus Georgetown on Nov. 19 in its first game of the year. GW rallied from a 16-point first-half deficit to claim the five-point triumph. Senior Jessica Simmonds led the way for the Colonials with 17 points in her GW debut. She also tied her personal-best with three blocked shots. Freshmen Kimberly Beck and Sarah-Jo Lawrence earned starts in their first-ever collegiate showings and notched two points and four points, respectively. Beck also contributed six assists. Sophomore Whitney Allen also made her first career start in the contest and sophomore Kenan Cole tied a personal best with nine points, while playing a career-high 29 minutes.
East Carolina also won its season-opening contest, defeating Duquesne, 65-51, on Nov. 19. The Pirates went on an 11-0 run in the final five minutes of the game to seal the win. Senior Jennifer Jackson netted a game-high 23 points and a team-best eight rebounds. Senior Viola Cooper contributed 11 markers. The Pirates are coached by Sharon Baldwin-Tener who is in her third season as court boss and owns a 27-30 record at ECU and is 96-57 overall.
The Colonials and Pirates haven't met in 21 years. During the 1982-83 campaign, the Colonials posted a 79-75 triumph over the Pirates at the Smith Center. The following year the Colonials faced the Pirates in their season opener and lost, 64-56.
