GW's All-Time Preseason N.I.T. Record: 3-1 (1994)
Tonight's Game: George Washington opens the season tonight in the Preseason N.I.T. with great expectations for the 2004-05 season. Both GW and Wake return all five starters and are favored to win their respective conference titles. Wake Forest (0-0) is ranked No. 2 in both national polls and is led by consensus All-America G Chris Paul. WF, 21-10 a year ago, was eliminated in the 2004 NCAA Tournament's `Sweet 16' by A-10 member Saint Joseph's. GW, coming off an 18-12 year that included a postseason N.I.T. appearance, returns all but two players and 92 percent of its scoring. GW makes its first appearance in the Preseason N.I.T. since 1994 when the Colonials lost to Ohio in the semifinal round at Madison Square Garden. GW has a 3-1 record in its only previous appearance in the Preseason N.I.T. GW is coming off a 106-45 victory over Div. III Randolph-Macon in the Colonials' only preseason exhibition game on Nov. 10. The Demon Deacons are coming off an 89-61 exhibition victory over Winston-Salem State last Thursday. Tonight's game marks GW's first meeting with Wake Forest since since Dec. 6, 1975 when the Demon Deacons prevailed by one, 78-77, in Washington. GW owns a slim, 18-15, advantage over Wake Forest in the all-time series between the schools which dates back to the 1927-28 season.
