Mortimer Selected to A-10 All-Conference First Team

PHILADELPHIA, PA - George Washington junior sweeper Ben Mortimer was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team on Wednesday, Nov. 10, in a vote conducted by the league's head coaches.
In the same vote the conference's mentors also honored GW freshman Matt Davis by naming him to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team.
Mortimer and Davis have each started all 18 matches on defense for the Colonials this season and anchor a unit that owns a 1.37 goals-against average and has posted four shutouts. Mortimer has contributed a personal-best four goals this season and he has nine total points. Davis has recorded two assists in his rookie campaign.
Rhode Island's Sasha Gotsmanov took home Offensive Player of the Year honors and Temple goalkeeper Patrick Hannigan was named Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season. The Rams also boasted the conference's Rookie of the Year in Danleigh Borman, while Noah Salsi of Duquesne was picked as the league's Student Athlete of the Year. Dukes' head coach Wade Jean earned A-10 Coach of the Year honors after leading Duquesne to the regular-season title.
The Colonials are seeded fourth for the A-10 Men's Soccer Championship which gets underway on Thursday, Nov. 11 at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex. GW will meet fifth-seeded Rhode Island at 1:00 p.m. in the event's opening round.
