PHILADELPHIA, PA - George Washington junior goalkeeper Derek Biss was selected as the Atlantic 10's co-Player of the Week for his performance in two GW victories last week. Biss shared the award with Chris Rolfe of Dayton.
Biss led a Colonials' defense that shut out Temple on Oct. 29, 1-0, and Saint Joseph's on Oct. 31, 2-0. He played all 90 minutes in both matches and made a combined three saves in the two contests. His pair of shutouts marked the first time in two seasons that a GW keeper notched consecutive blankings. Eric Lund was the last Colonials' goalie to turn the trick, shutting out Temple and Fordham in back-to-back matches on Nov. 20 and Nov. 25, 2002.
For the season, Biss has played more than 1,421 minutes and has been between the posts for all six of GW's victories. He owns a 1.27 goals-against average, which ranks fourth in the A-10. Biss also owns a 1.04 GAA in league matches. He has made 51 saves this season.
Biss is the first Colonial to earn the conference player of the week accolades since Frank Ambrosio on Nov. 10, 2003.
GW will complete its regular season on Saturday, Nov. 6 with a match at Richmond. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
